With the ps-wii-elite engine revampĀ  95% complete, lets have at what once was so.

A Bit of History

Before I introduce some of the new features and site ethos, here is how things used to be: theme archive

dyadic-night-splash

The dyadic-night implementation (above) was really where ps-wii-elite really started to take shape. Driven by blogging and wordpress experience the theme matured to be both crisper and more accessible.

The ever evolving paper-trail scripts formed new core functionality and on the graphics side Hough Waves were introduced to give more of a PS3 influence. Most importantly however was that a lot of bugs were fixed.

So Why the Change?

Despite all this progress there were still some overarching issues that could not be ignored, you know the little bits here and there that you will fix later. Sadly these factors were also accompanied by issues such as color performance on lower end monitors and to a degree poor content organization/duplication.

Looks the same, whats New?

There has been a major overhaul to the ps-wii-elite layer on which all my themes sit. The key points are as follows:

  • Wordpress framework updated to v2.7
  • The paper-trail-scripts have had a full rewrite allowing pages and posts to opt-in via metadata calls.
  • There is a new affiliates system using paper-trail functionality that allows pages to tie together.
  • Page organization has been re-defined and is currently (gonna take some time) being updated.
  • Media is now to be embedded in page instead of framed via use of thickbox’s.
  • Facility for using Wordpress’s Galleries has been implemented.
  • Additional tools have been created to aid with admin tasks.
  • Comments should now finally work.

Graphically I have tried to merge the original ps-wii-elite theme and dyadic-night as an attempt to resolve the color issues of both.

dyadic-grey-splash

Until this point ps-wii-elite had always been my personal favorite, however thus far I am quite happy with the new result. I have kept the PS3 style Hough Waves and have introduced a green element to reinforce the elite aspect of the overall design, however, this has had a knock on, the wii aspect of the design.
