There have been a few changes here at dyadica.net over the last few days, primarily involving color. Cornily entitled the abyss I’m about 80% through the theme revamp, however doubt is already setting in.

Initial focus behind the current change was to combat some of the old themes non intentional contrast issues, that have been highlighted by a few folks. For reference and comparison here is a picture of the old setup:

Now I really liked the gray theme however feedback indicated that things could look a little washed out… ho humm.

Finally there is rudimentary implementation of a comments system. So now all you folks can rip me to bits, cool eh more power to ya.

By way of conclusion I think with the advent of easter I’m going to bite the bullet and attempt A BLACK THEME, which until now I have constantly avoided (I believe it the hardest look to pull off successfully).

Additionally I have now got round to updating my wordpress install to 2.3.3

Due to last nights shenanagens I have decided to start a little spring cleaning (early bird and all that). There are still some areas that vitally need addressing to improve both the ergonomics and functionality of this site. You know those bits that you will do later etc.

I have started by removing the Archives list from the root page (1). Really if you want to delve into the archives there is more than enough functionality provided by the papertrail and the main archives page.

The purpose of a root (snapshot) page should be to capture the interest of new visitors and provide veterans with immediate access to new content. Realistically at present this one is far to er.. hectic or eclectic which ever floats your boat lol.

I have also decided to remove the wiisource collective (2) completely (content can easily be accessed via standard surfing: tags, cats archives etc) and replace it with new focused projects and tutorial pages. The first of these being the wii connect project detailing the wiimote windows driver I am currently developing.

The plan is for all wiisource content to migrate to a bespoke sub domain (3) ala wii.dyadica.net. This will make things easier to find and let those who are solely wii orientated to avoid the general blog.

Next I need to sort out some headers / banners for the page tops (4) to begin with I’m probably going to migrate the hough waves from the old theme to this one. I think I am also going to bring back the top navigation for main pages too (5). Realistically the site was a lot more functional with them.

Whilst I’m at it I need to rewire the title as a root link…dunno what happened there (6).

The fist of the major changes will be converting the old video collective to that of Media (7). From here I will host and provide access to all fancy media such as video shockwave and flash, each of which will be included as a sub section. This media will also be able to be addressed as normal via thickbox implementation in both posts and pages.

I still need to address visitor comments. The system has been through numerous revisions but still needs to be finalized. Initial thoughts are on position and field size (8). Origionaly, ok a revision or so ago the author posts were highlighted, but this seems to have gone the way of the title link.

Word wrapping for pages and large image sizes needs a look into both are possible solutions for better post page visuals however I believe both should be implemented for variety (9,10). Whilst were at it an additional class for centered images would be useful (11).

Populate Cool Stuff. This will provide me with a depth guide for the read more positioning (12). It will also be a good resource for jumping to great content produced by the masses.

Whats up with comments link bellow posts (13). Er ordered lists maybe good to have eh (14). I also need to get rid of the is page markers that were placed in the titles whilst developing (15) I just got used to them I guess. I have also divided to remove the Imajica collective (16) for pretty much the same reasoning as the video collective.

Right I have also been thinking about the blog page and its function. I question if it is at all needed due to the capabilities of the root page. Whilst I dwell on this thoughts also turn to the Pages page. To begin with I’m going to make each functional to there namesake and see how things pan out from there. This means that blog (a word I hate) will become Posts (17) and pages will be developed to highlight latest content in addition to the current papertrail listing (18). With Posts in mind I also need to colorize the area focus sections as is on the root page (19).

Whilst we are on the pages subject, for some time I have been toying with changing some of the sites areas, spans to full width (20). The result of this will be the removal of sidebar content within these locations. Pages is a prime candidate for testing this scenario out.

Ok thats it for now no more until I have sorted out these points or it will be 2009.

Note to self, have also added super large image class (.slarge, 695×265) in addition to .xlarge (695×180px).
