The Paper Trail

With the advent of The Paper Trail (TPT) I have decided to give it its own project page. I just need to populate it now lol. You can see an example of TPT in action as a page map and paper trail at the following:

  • Map: here
  • Trail: here -> look at the sidebar.

Im writing things up as fast as possible and all the posts to date can be can be found as follows:

Stage 0.6 details the bodies of code used to create a “Matrix Map”. The Paper Trail script has now evolved to be a much simpler collection of modules that can be individually called. Within this post is all the code needed to create your own wordpress matrix map.

Stage 0.5 details modification to the pollChildren() function to cater for W3C compliance. This stage also details modification to TPT CSS to cater for the additional <li> tags resulting from the function revamp. Suggestion is made for a point of entry for the attachments script.

Stage 0.4 details additional use of the pollChildren() function within TPT to facilitate calls to display a posts parents child pages if desired. Trigger for the call is provided by definition of the custom key “poll-dad” within a post / page. The post also implies function migration to the functions.php page.

Stage 0.3 details further modification to the child page call allowing attachments to be filtered resulting in the script also being able to be used as a current post attachment display tool.

Stage 0.2 details conversion of the code to functions in order to provide facility for the reciprocation of some of the code. Functionality at this stage is similar to that of stage 0.1.

Stage 0.1 details TPT as a script that generates a visual map for a wordpress sites hierarchical page structure detailing parent current and child pages in easy to read blocks. When used on a post page TPT acts similarly to a contemporary breadcrumb trail by breaking down the uri to describe the posts location. In effect this is also true for a page page.

In the future – RC1, I plan to convert the script to a wordpress plugin asap.
